Hurricane Irma: A personal note to my clients, friends and soon-to-be friends:
No other city in the United States combines in just 5.5 square miles the cosmopolitan sophistication of Manhattan with the laid-back, live-and-let-live lifestyle of the historic Caribbean islands. And that exuberant, legendary Keys Strong approach is rebuilding our island in scant weeks following Hurricane Irma on Sept. 10.
Key West escaped the brunt of Hurricane Irma, emerging that Sunday afternoon with virtually every home and building standing strong. Our building codes ensure our structures can withstand the kinds of Category 4 winds that raced across the island. The storm surge was only 2.5 feet, far less than even Hurricane Wilma, and that meant little flooding throughout the island and none in most areas.
Our Island Homes Key West staff is safe. Our homes survived the storm. Our challenges are many and we are prepared Keys Strong to meet them successfully. We look forward to welcoming you to your island paradise. We are grateful for your patience as we make Key West ready for you.
We are grateful to you who share our love of this island. We need you to come “home” to Key West as part of our recovery. We might be a little less green, but our famous Key West hospitality will be better than ever.
We have inspected each of our Island Homes Key West featured homes for sale. All remain strong, safe and secure. They are as beautiful today as they were two weeks ago. Tropical landscaping recovers quickly and it will be but a few weeks before the lush, green gardens repair themselves.
We are barely two weeks into our recovery, yet home and business owners are opening doors and welcoming friends and family home. Over the next month, we will open our featured homes for your private tour. We will work with you to achieve your dreams in our Key West paradise. You already know how wonderful a Key West vacation can be. Living here is better. Sharing our indomitable spirit, becoming part of our unique community, will convince you there is no better place on earth to call home.
Whether you’re considering a permanent Key West move or a second home to escape the mainland winters, you’ll soon find yourself wondering how you lived anywhere else.
